Dear friends-

If you opened this issue and were surprised to see my face on the cover, I assure you: I had a similar reaction!

But, it has been a pretty good year for the people making television here at PBS Michiana – WNIT. While being named the YWCA of North Central Indiana’s Woman of the Year is a big honor, none of us is doing this alone. Whatever recognition comes my way (or the way of the station) is a direct result of this team showing up every day and doing important work across every corner of our building.

This fall, our work has been recognized with five Public Media Award nominations (and three wins!), and we’ve also received two Indiana Broadcasters Association nominations. That recognition belongs to a lot of people throughout the station, and I’m so proud of the work our production team continues to put on your screens. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at some of that work in this month’s issue, along with a chance to get to know some of the people who make it happen.

We’re also celebrating a few new beginnings this fall! The new PBS Michiana member portal launches on our website in October, giving you even more control over your membership. You can go online and make an additional gift, adjust your monthly giving, or learn more about your member benefits. 

NOVA: Evolutions is our latest PBS national science highlight, a truly epic journey of life’s changes through time. If you haven’t checked out The Gold yet, you absolutely must: Hugh Bonneville, an accidental multimillion dollar heist, and a new season starting this month. And in November, Ken Burns is back with Crime and Punishment in America, looking at the history of criminal justice in America from colonial times to today.

And after teaching millions of children to “look in a book” and learn to read with science-backed repetition and the catchiest songs, Whyatt and friends are back with a brand new series: Super Why!’s Comic Book Adventures. (For my household, this is the most exciting news of the month.)
